What Lies Beneath Your Dirt?

Dirt! It’s messy to say the least. It has its place outside in our yards and in the fields. It serves as a great source to yield produce, fauna and flora. But inside? Hmm, well that’s a different story, or is it?

Defined, dirt means a substance, such as mud or dust, that soils something or someone. When we read it in that connotation, we can see it as a nuisance in our reputable lives. Sometimes, dirt can conceal, cover, mess up and leave us buried alive if we allow it.

So, what do we do with the dirt in our lives, things that we wished we could forget or hide or things that others insinuate which bear no truth at all? I believe that even that kind of dirt can produce something beautiful. It is all in how we view what lies beneath.

The other day I was cleaning the area rug in my living room. It was a mess! I made a mental note to self never to purchase a rug with a light base color ever again. I just couldn’t get it clean enough for my standards.

It was then that I had to stop and reflect on what the soiled carpet represented. I was reminded of all the visits of family and friends, the little feet of my energetic grandchildren that ran into the house hollering “Mimi, where are you?”, the married couples that invested in their relationships, the kids that came to personal discovery and leadership workshops, the multiple special group fellowships, the Personal Journeys that impacted lives forever, the parties for birthdays and special occasion celebrations, the drop-ins, and the intimate dinners with friends. I saw a year of seeds sowed with love, joy and peace planted in all that dirt. LOL! These seeds produced an abundant harvest of fulfilled dreams, endless possibilities, renewed hope, boundless encouragement, and inspired individuals ready to live their own dreams. After viewing it from that perspective, the dirt did not look so bad at all. As a matter of fact, I smiled, realizing it was all worth it.

I may be getting a new area rug soon; however, the investment in the old one was very fruitful and productive. I refuse to see my efforts as having been in vain. Soiled carpet has no hold on me, (LOL!) and neither does a soiled life. I am looking forward to what the new carpet will encounter, as well as to the remainder of my days. And, dirt, well, it’s just a part of the process that brings about a life worth living.

What do you see in your dirt? What memories are underneath it all? Be encouraged and do not allow yourself to be robbed of the hidden treasure that lies beneath. May you see dirt with a new and different view!

Great things are happening! Shine bright. It’s a good time to be you!

Peace and Joy,

Angela
