This Thing Call Time

Time, something we all have yet we declare we never have. What? I know, sounds crazy right? How many times have you yourself said, “I don’t have time”? I recently read a truthful quote that is very
liberating, “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.”

You have more control over your time than you realize. Time is created. So, when you say, “I don’t have time” what is actually being said is, “I don’t want to.” Wow, that’s pretty eye opening. Time has a way of showing us what really matters most.

If your time is being used for things that you do not find fulfilling or productive, here are some ways to improve how you use it or view it.

  1. Stop seeing time as money. Slow down and enjoy the journey.
  2. You may not enjoy your job, so work smarter not harder. Here’s a positive thought to keep in mind as you use your time to work: “You work to provide for the dreams you want to live”.
  3. Embrace novelty. Make a memory that will last a lifetime.
  4. On lunch breaks go into nature and meditate and reflect. (i.e. sit under a tree or at a picnic table, bring a blanket and sit on the ground)
  5. Take the scenic route to work and enjoy the view.
  6.  When possible, share the workload with others that you enjoy being around. You will get the job done and have fun.
  7. When doing something you don’t like, incorporate something you do like. (i.e. If you have to work on the computer all day, play some of your favorite tunes, light your favorite scented candle, or sit outside on your porch or deck and enjoy nature.)
  8. Take regular breaks to stretch and refresh. This will also give you something to work toward and look forward to- a small reward for staying focused.
  9. Plan multiple errands on the same day so that you can conquer more during one scheduled outing.

These are just a few ways to create time that you enjoy. You can pilot it any way you desire to make even those not so enjoyable tasks thrilling! Be good to yourself and invest it well. As the ancient Chinese Proverb says, “An inch of time is an inch of gold. But you can’t buy that inch of time with an inch of gold.”

Let’s keep growing and going. It’s a good time to be you!

Peace and Joy,
Angela
