“Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear _______________. (You fill in the blank!) Happy birthday to you!”
This is a familiar song sung in many languages by many families since the late 1800’s when it was written by two sisters. It has become a tradition to celebrate another successful 365 days’ rotation around the sun in a person’s life. 365 days, wow!
When we break our years down into days, it appears to give a different concept – days. They come and they go so quickly at times. Then they can drag on forever, leaving us feeling like we are getting nowhere fast.
Each day that has been gifted to you serves a purpose. Yes, “gifted.” You are privileged to enter each one of them. Not everyone got the opportunity to unwrap today. But you did. What will you do with it? Will you wish it away? Will you regret it? Will you allow yourself to be robbed of its joy? Or will you seize it?
I love this quote by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross: “It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth – and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up – that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.”
Living each day and being in the moment is liberating. When you make that resolve, you will see everything in a different light. You will look for the good in each situation. You will treasure the small things while working towards the greater. You will take nothing for granted and have little to no regrets. You will be kinder and more generous. You will love and not hate. And the ideas could go on and on.
Take the challenge to find ways to live your days with purpose. Life will become less difficult and more enjoyable. The challenges will always be there. And, remember, so will the joy. It will be present to greet you as you unwrap each morning.
Here’s to enjoying this day. Let’s keep growing and going. Shine bright. It’s a good time to be you!
Peace and Joy,
Angela
