Knowledge (The Virtue Series)

Have you ever heard the saying “Knowledge is power”? How about the phrase “Fake it till you make it”? I once had an epiphany with that one. I learned quickly: “Know it or you’ll blow it!”

No matter what the standard school of thought is, knowledge does provide an opportunity for being empowered, building confidence, and equipping an individual. Being open minded to learning  and being educated can be the most wonderful adventure of all.

When Keith and I travel, I love the unexpected stops we make to tour a point of interest. During our brief excursions we learn new things about people, places, and things that we would not have otherwise discovered. Keith likes to browse and leave. Me? I love taking the tour with a guide to learn about the subject. One of the most interesting places we toured was the house of Samuel Clemens (aka The Mark Twain House) in Hartford, Connecticut. Being a fan of his writings such as Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, I enjoyed learning more about the American author’s home life, loves, and family. Within the same area was the Noah Webster house where Mr. Webster was born. This was also the place where he wrote the first blueback speller which brought a whole new way children learned to read. He is also known as the Father of the American language by writing his dictionary which contained over 70,000 words and their definitions. Just being there in the state that led the way for public education to be made available for all children gave me a deeper appreciation for education, learning, and knowledge. Upon returning from our trip, I felt compelled to continue my own journey of education. I was not satisfied with what I already knew. I wanted to learn more so that my conversations could be enhanced and I would have more to offer others as I teach.

One statement is true, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” However, that can change. Though it is ok to admit, do not be satisfied with saying, “I don’t know.” Challenge yourself to learn and to grow. Become knowledgeable so that your confidence can be built and others can benefit from your wealth of knowledge.

Let’s be committed to keep gaining knowledge. Your labor will not be in vain. Stand firm. It’s a good time to be you!

Peace and Joy,

Coach Angela
