Generosity is the act of being kind and benevolent. It is lavishing others by liberally sharing what you have. Too often, this is what is lacking in our society. There are a few who carry the natural character trait of altruism. Because of their generosity, many lives are positively impacted and changed for the better.
How do we all become a member of the altruism team? This participation in generosity begins with focus. Keep in mind that you get what you focus on. Should you focus on lack, limited abilities, or insufficient resources then you are less likely to be a candidate for this character trait. Please, do not misunderstand what I am saying; we can all change our focus and qualify. Instead of centering your attention on what you do not have, take into account what you do have. If you do not have it, you cannot share it. When you begin to see what you do have, you realize there is more than you thought. From that mindset of abundance, you are able to share and multiply what you have. In return, you obtain what you need. I have often heard this minimal investment to be called “seed.” When you plant into someone else, it will come back as an abundant harvest.
In my early days, I worked in foreign missions for about 13 years. During my many trips abroad, I would often leave my suitcase of clothes for those who had a greater need for them than I. Living on meager means during that period of my life, I did not have a fashion collection. But, nonetheless, I gave what I had. Today, one of my passions is fashion. My closets are full, yes, closets (plural). On a regular basis, I will go through clothing and repurpose pieces or give them away due to the abundance of a return from what I sowed over the years.
Keep in mind, it is ok not to have what you feel you need, want, or desire in the moment when opportunity presents itself for you to be generous. The idea is to give from what you do have. Generosity will go a long way when you focus on your abundance. Let’s keep growing and going. It’s a good time to be you!
