You are bold, brave and courageous. You can do anything that you set your mind to. At least, that is what my grandmother and mother always told me. No matter how difficult the path you walk, the joy is in the journey to your destination. Believe it and you will achieve it!
Does any of that positive inspiration sound familiar? I am certain it does. I read a quote that stated, “The difference between successful people and others is the amount of time they spend feeling sorry for themselves.” It doesn’t matter how much you quote motivational messages to yourself. If you do not change the way you feel, they will go in one ear and out the other (another quote that was spoken to me growing up).
Though feelings are real, they can be deceiving. As humans, we have an abundance of feelings. Some of them are empowering while others are demoralizing. Which route you choose, up or down, determines the outcome of how you will remember that magnified moment in time. The way to your dreams, destiny and goals can be taxing and profoundly unbearable. The desire to feel sorry for yourself is tempting to say the least. That is when we can lose sight of the main thing.
In an effort to resist the temptation to feel sorry for yourself and stay focused, here are a few actions you can take.
- Remember your “why.” (That is the reason you started in the first place).
- Develop a personal mantra or motto based on your “why” and say it to yourself and to others often. (Mine is, it’s a good time to be you.)
- During stressful times find ways to decompress, even for just 10 minutes. (The number 10 means law and order. Get things back into proper perspective.)
- Adjust your momentary thoughts to things that make you happy and bring a smile to your face (memories, places, people, the finish line, etc.)
These are just a few ideas. I know you will think of more as you get started keeping the main thing the main thing. Remember, you can do anything you set your mind to. Do not rent room in your head to harmful thoughts that can hurt your heart. Feelings are real, so choose them wisely. Let’s keep growing and going. It’s a good time to be you!
Peace and Joy,
Angela
